Description: Aerial view of a cut dry field with curved and straight plow marks. A contrasting narrow arch of green lush plants curves from the upper left to the lower right edge of the field.
Label Text: Label text from the exhibition (OFF)BALANCE: Art in the Age of Human Impact, March 27-May 9, 2025: In Anderson’s aerial photograph we can instantly recognize the unnatural state of the landscape, as if something or someone has intervened. However, his decision to further modify the image in the post-production process makes it difficult for the viewer to know how much of the image exists in the real world and how much is a result of manipulation. The line between natural and controlled becomes blurred.
Anderson states “I can readily remove objects from a scene and slightly alter the land before me to enhance the structure of the picture and clarify the visual experience I am seeking.” The emergent image can be read as a critique of the intentional and continuous transformation of land and nature. - Adeyemi Adebayo, Candidate MFA Studio Arts
