Description: Large brown book, face down, with porcelain doll's legs protruding from the pages. From Portfolio of 14 prints from Art resources Transfer (A.R.T.)
Label Text: Label text from “The Art of Collecting: Contemporary Prints from the Risa Gerrig Collection,” September 10 – October 12, 2014: Simmons’s work touches on femininity and comments on the domestic space in this series of walking and lying objects. She attaches doll legs to everyday objects, giving them a sense of movement and bringing them to life. The book in this print looks as if it has been just put down with its cover left precariously open, conveying a sense of movement. The doll legs, also open, ties the piece to a feminist statement about the woman’s role in domesticity and the fetishized female body. - Shelby Miner (B.A. ’15)
