Label Text: Curatorial Fellowship exhibition: What's So Funny: How Humor Makes Us Think, March 21 - April 28, 2019 The men and women depicted in Pocono Party #2 occupy a space charged with intrigue, excitement, and curiosity. What these individuals have in common is their choice to use their bodies as a commodity. In order to discover subjects for her work, Mika Rottenberg, frequently searches online for people advertising their body for hire. Rottenberg describes their bodies as extraordinary and is fascinated by their ability to manipulate the system for their own gain. Their decision to commodify their bodies and willingness to be placed, by Rottenberg, in such a voyeuristic scene presents contradictions of our societal assumptions regarding objectification, empowerment, and ownership. - Kayla Peterson (M.A. Art History, 2020) and Siyu Shen (M.A. Art History, 2020)
