Label Text:
Golub’s works were influenced by contemporary events he was living through. In the 1970’s this was the Vietnam War, and the 80’s saw him shift his focus to terrorism. In the 90’s, when this work was created, Golub turned his attention more to the illusionistic, with themes of separation and loss arising as he began to consider his own mortality. His subject, throughout his artistic career was man, often used as a symbol of ambition, both spiritual and social.
