Description: Interior of a delapitated public space with the floor and furniture covered with drop cloths. Paint is peeling from the ceiling and the wainscotting and window have been sprayed with black paint.
Label Text: 2013 Curatorial Fellowship Exhibition: Shaping the View This juxtaposition of absence and presence can also be seen in Jan Staller’s Hoboken Train Station from 1983. A neutral color palette splashed with green and violet evokes an eerie atmosphere that suggests recent desertion or impending renovation. The glory days of the train station are hidden underneath the tarps and behind tinted windows. It is up to the viewer to realize the potential of the room and look past these obstructions.
