Description: Triangular field of solid green at the top and left half of the paper. The slight curve of the one the edges implies the true dimension of a large circle.
Label Text: Excerpt from wall label, for the exhibition “The Unexpected Encounters of Looking Again,” November 28 - March 15, 2007: Considered a leader in the hard-edge faction of color field painting, Kelly has said he is primarily interested in mass and color. In 1963 he said, “The edge happens because the forms get as quiet as they can be.” In this work the sharp edges of the triangle push against the title’s description, Green Circle, and defy the viewer’s expectations regarding the primary shape they will experience. - Rebecca Karp (M.A. '08)
