Description:
This large woven house/wall mat is made out of coarse sea grass that has been twined. This mat is embroidered with thin strips of fish skin, producing a darker design (which has partly worn off on one side of the mat) of horizontal bars and "H" motifs. The mat is badly damaged (likely from water) and contains many holes and stains. The mat would have been hung from a wall inside the home for protection against wind and cold, or as a room divider.
