moonlit water and shore with pool of light in center image; landscape; water; night; outdoor

Label Text:
Many of Tryon's paintings of the mid-1870s, like "Twilight on the Maine Coast" and "Moonlight on the Water," exhibit qualities often associated with the so-called luminists: clear light, still atmosphere, shimmering light on water. They also reflect Tryon's response to an exhibition of Dutch paintings, including marine scenes, he had recently seen at the Wadsworth Atheneum.
