SKINNER CATALOGUE:
A very fine native hunting spear from Northern Rhodesia, South Africa. The head is the usual spear shape, small, with long shaft spreading into a deep socket, into which the wooden handle fits. The handle is short and has a long round solid iron rod drived into its other end, the end of the rod being sharpened to serve as weapon, or so that the spear might be stuck upright in the ground. The shaft of the head is partly covered with the skin of an animal tail, 5 1/8" long, and the wooden handle is nearly entirely covered with a similar tail skin, the tuft of black hairs at the end of the tail serving as a rude ornament.
