Description: Edition 4/5
Label Text: From the exhibtion Jane Hammond, Digital and Analog, February 1 - May 29, 2022 Snapshots, vernacular photographs, and found photography are among Hammond’s favorite source material for both analog and digital collage, as seen in When You Wish and City of New Orleans. In When You Wish, a digitally constructed self-portrait, she has deftly inserted herself and Elvis Presley into a found image. Arm-in-arm, the pair pose amidst the uncanny corpses of the Capuchin catacombs in Palermo, Sicily, in southern Italy.
City of New Orleans presents antiquities and other objects displayed against the backdrop of a vintage locomotive in an almost overwhelming array of imagery and meaning. Merging traditional photography with digital collage, the artist creates a surreal industrial scene littered with classical and religious sculpture rendered in ancient stone.
