Description:
Mount Holyoke Female Seminary: Founder and Principal 1837-1849.

Three-quarter length portrait of seated female figure facing slightly to proper right wearing a white cap, white lace-edged collar, and dark dress. She holds a book, open to the viewer, in her proper right hand. The edge of the chair in which she sits shows slightly against a plain dark background.
