The story of the virtue of Chao Fu (Soho) & Xu You (Kyoyu): when Emperor Yao in the semi-mythological ages of China (c. 2360 B.C.) suggested to his advisor, the sage Xu You, that he would abdicated his throne in favor of Xu. Xu ran to the nearest waterfall to wash his ears of the defilement they had incurred in listening to such a temptation. Xu's companion, Chao Fu, on hearing the reason for Xu's hurried ablutions felt compelled to go one better and washed his ears and eyes of the taint of ambition which was spreading upon him; further, noticing his ox drinking from the brook below the waterfall, he rushed to lead the anial from the contaminated waters
