Description: ca. late 19th or early 20th century plaster cast of a Pentelic marble original dating to the Classical Period, ca. 360 BCE. This grave stele, found in Piraeus, Greece, depicts three women. The woman to the right is the mistress of the two female slaves positioned to her left. One of these slaves kneels to adjust her mistress’ sandal; the other stands holding a box. An inscription on the stylized pediment above the three figures includes the name of the mistress being memorialized, Ameinokleia. The original relief after which this cast is made is located at the National Archaeological Museum in Athens, Greece. Provenience: Piraeus, Greece, Athens (original)
