Description: Embroidered at-home cap done in silk embroidery in a floral design. In the 18th century, men frequently wore a wig. Akin to a fashionable accessory, a wig completed a man's look, rather than serving a substitute for hair loss. Wigs frequently fit better on a head that was already shaved. When at home or in informal settings, men sometimes removed their wigs for comfort. Caps such as this beautifully embroidered example helped to keep those shaved heads warm in those instances.
