Description: English delft circular plate with blue decoration. The well is decorated with a chinoiserie landscape scene of a house; a tall poplar and pine, and smaller 'telegraph pole' tree; large rocks and foliage around the house, and a small island-like clump of rock and foliage in the foreground; and two flocks of flying birds in a "V" formation. The curvature is encircled with a trellis pattern with blue dashes and crosses; the outer rim is surrounded by a series of blue dots in blue squares. Fragments with the same border pattern were found by Garner in Lambeth and in excavations at Colonial Williamsburg; and the Victoria and Albert Museum has a similar plate dated 1760, although Archer believes the color of this glaze to be slightly later. The well is decorated with a chinoiserie landscape scene of a tall tree, small building, rocks, foliage, running fence, and two flocks of birds flying in a "V" formation.
