Description: English delft circular plate with blue decoration. The well is decorated with a chinoiserie landscape scene with a figure seated on a fence, with trees, foliage, and mountains in the background. The curvature has a blue band with diaper-work and scratched-blue scrolls; and the rim has a band of scratched-blue scales. According to Maurice Hillis, ceramics scholar, this plate design with its sgraffito border is similar to a design on Vauxhall porcelain. This plate may have been made near Vauxhall in London.
