Description: Woman's bracelet made of woven hair and straw or reeds, fastening with a (puch button) pressure clasp, and containing two lockets of differently-colored hair entwined in an endless knot, protected by a beveled crystal. A fine safety chain is connected to either side of the clasp, which is partially engraved. Better examples were made in France. A note attached to the bracelet informs "Hair Bracelet/ An heirloom from Deerfield/ Massachusetts." This bracelet is an example of more affordable, American-made jewelry available to mid 19th-century American women.
