Description:
Silk and wool embroidery in green, blue, beige, and red on a linen ground of a middle-eastern landscape scene with a elaborately gowned man and woman, two tents, man with camel, 3 deer, sheep, rabbits, palm tree, etc.

Label Text:
Celebrating the Fiber Arts 2008: Pictures such as this were the pride and joy of a family and were used to show off the accomplishment of the needlewomen in the household. They often took the place of more costly paintings or even popular prints as a form of wall decoration. Exotic landscapes seen here may have had biblical themes but this was not always the case. Figures set into a landscape of familiar animals such as
deer, sheep and rabbits were taken to another realm by the inclusion of palm trees and oriental
dress.
