Description:
Fragment of purple, warp-faced silk faille. The original fabric was subjected to pressure, causing a watered or moired pattern effect, essentially a flattening out the ribs on the right side. Textiles like this, especially in wool, were popular 18th-century fabrics for upholstery furnishings for beds and chair seats.
