Description: Folding desk box with brass carrying handles, felt-covered writing surface, and several compartments. It purportedly belonged to Dr. Matthew Bridge Baker (d.1839) of Charlestown and Springfield, Massachusetts, father of Miss C. Alice Baker (1833-1909). The box is listed in the Emma Lewis Coleman (1853-1942) inventory of 1963, p. 86, S. Bedrm, #10. The bottom of the box and the inside writing surface are yellow-poplar, and the veneer is mahogany.
