Description: One of two cherry side chairs, attributed to the Chapin school with urn-shaped splats and straight legs. These chairs were purportedly once owned by the Watson Family of East Windsor Hill, Connecticut, who built the Watson- Bancroft House in 1785. The house was restored by the late William Goodwin of Hartford. This chair shows composite styles of Chippendale and Hepplewhite with straight legs, and a finely-carved urn splat. The slip seat frame is white pine, and the corner blocks are yellow-poplar and white pine (the white pine blocks are not original).
