Description: Silver octagonal, faceted baluster-stem taperstick with the touchmark "T B" in a shaped cartouche for by Robert Timbrell and Joseph Bell (the attribution of this taperstick has been changed from Timbrell and Bentley to Timbrell and Bell), and a Britannia standard mark, lion's head erased, and date letter "u" for 1715-1716. The partnership of Timbrell (free 1685/89?) and Bell began sometime after Bell received his freedom in 1707 and lasted until 1716. English silver often inspired American copies or imitations. In this case style moved rapidly from London to Boston where John Coney (1656-1722) made a similar pair of candlesticks (HD 62.043A/B) in 1716.
