Description:
Booklet titled "New Hampshire 1783 Society of the Cincinnati" with colored, draped flags on heavy card-like stock, which has a brief description of the founding of Society of Cincinnati in New Hampshire in 1783 in 7 pages, including colored portraits of George Washington (1732-1799) who served as the first President General of the Society of the Cincinnati from December 1783, until his death in 1799; John Sullivan (1740-1795) who was one of the founders of the Society and the first President of the Order in New Hampshire; and scenes of the Cininnati Memorial Hall and Folsom Tavern in Exeter, NH. There is a twisted silk cord and fragments of a wax seal tucked between the pages. There is no date on the booklet, but the text refers to the purchase of the Cincinnati Memorial Hall from the descendents of the Gilmans in 1902. This and the other Sullivan-related items acquired in 1962, were said to be, "Unreservedly guaranteed to have been purchased directly from the home of Col. James and Mrs. Sullivan of Ashfield, Massachusetts" (nothing in the file about Col. James Sullivan).
