Description: Silver teaspoon a spatulate-end handle with a midrib and an eliptical bowl with a rounded drop and lobed shall on the back, which is marked "I.M" in a serrated rectangle for Joseph Moulton II (1724-1795) on back of the handle. Son of blacksmith Joseph Moulton (1694-1756), Joseph Moulton II was the younger brother of silversmith William Moulton (1720-c.1793), and was active in Newburyport for nearly 50 years. Stephen Decatur attributed three marks to Joseph Mounton II, two of which ("JM" in a rectangle, and "I. MOULTON" in a rectangle) and a third ("J M" with a cross between in a rectangle) Louse Belden suggests were shared by Joseph and his nephew, silversmith Joseph Mouton III (1744-1816).
