Description: Chinese export porcelain tureen with cover and stand (HD 60.047) decorated with floral sprays in pink, orange, blue, green, and applied hand-molded scrolling vines and leaves. David Howard notes that this type of decoration would have been an expensive addition to the already well decorated pieces, but was in fashion. The technique was used principally on export ware between 1730 and 1745. This is an example of a Western form, probably based on European silver designs, adapted in Chinese porcelain with foreign influenced colors.
