Description: Chinese export porcelain, hexagonal spoon tray decorated with floral sprays in red, pink, orange, blue, green, and applied hand-molded scrolling vines and leaves. David Howard notes that this type of decoration would have been an expensive addition to the already well decorated pieces, but was in fashion. The technique was used principally on export ware between 1730 and 1745. Spoon trays were commonly used until about 1790, even though saucers were provided. The lobed-hexagonal shape of the spoon tray, also popular for tea stands, was indigenous to China.
