Description:
A later commemorative Williamite Battle of the Boyne 1690 balustroid wine glass, the deceptive trumpet bowl engraved with an equestrian portrait of William III beneath a banner inscribed ‘THE GLORIOUS MEMORY OF KING WILLIAM’ above ‘NO SURRENDER’, the obverse inscribed BOYNE 1st JULY, 1690, T.C. and SC on a triple annular shoulder knop and baluster section and double basal knop, the folded flattened conical foot with pontil mark. The glass is free from any defects (bubbles, stones, etc..) and is very white or colorless. These glasses were made for Orange Lodges and to meet collectors demand in the late 19th and early 20th century. The Potters Alley glassworks, Dublin being the prime candidate. Glasses of this type are attributable to Franz Tieze. a Bohemian engraver working at Potters Alley in Dublin.
