Description:
Square-shaped wooden trunk covered in deer hide with a lock at the front and a brass bail handle on the lid. Narrow strips of brown leather outline the perimeter of the box and are secured into place with rows of brass tacks. The interior of the trunk is lined with a February 23, 1847 edition of the Vermont Temperance Herald (published in Woodstock, Vermont). A thin leather strap on the turnk's interior, connecting the side of the box and the lid, prevents the lid from fully opening. The box retains its original key.

Subjects:
Brass
