Description: Pencil sketch of the kitchen in the Manse or Joseph Barnard House in Deerfield (what is now the Head of School's residence for Deerfield Academy). The sketch depicts a round, cabriole leg table in the foreground, in the center is an open hearth with many implements for open hearth cooking - including three hanging pots and a kick toaster, in front is a fireplace fender, alongside the hearth is a gun, above the hearth on the mantle are a variety of objects: candlesticks, jugs, coffeepots, and bottles, a large central dish hangs in the above the fireplace. Inscribed in the lower left hand corner "KITCHEN MANTEL / The Manse / Olde Deerfield Mass. / 1768" Initialed in the lower right near the fireplace: "CR [or RC] '32" A note in pencil on the reverse from previous owner J. Peter Spang reads: "Identified on front. The arched door was removed by contractor Wm Gass and is presently in Dwight House, 1st floor back hallway of front structure opposite toilet room.
