Description:
Heart-shaped inkwell, with three small holes and one large central hole in the top, straight sides and flat base, decorated in red, black, blue, red, yellow, and green colors, decoration is floral with three floral sprays on the top, on the sides are larger flower sprays, taped on the base is a modern paper label with the typed inscription, " Noel-Hume, Ivor, "Rouen Faience in Eighteenth-Century America." Antiques, Dec. 1960 559-561" and a white label marked "DWC 602" and "C/ New Hamp/ Rouen?" Condition: There is a large chip on the bottom tip of the inkwell. Ex Coll Rachel and Reginald French of Amherst, MA. In the French catalogue, the entry for this object reads: "DW C 602 Heart shaped inkstand. French, possibly Rouen late 18th. Sprays in red, gr., bl. messy yellow. New Hampshire glaze br. 1 chip"
