Description: This object is usually termed a crespina - from the Italian crespa or wrinkle. The forms were molded in imitation of popular metalwork designs and were popular from the second quarter of the16th century onwards. Tin-glazed earthenware molded dish with attached foot, dish is molded in a fan pattern of pointed petals and flutes; the front of the dish is decorated in blue, the border design is divided into four sections of birds and flowers, the center round section has a fox or hound chasing a rabbit with a bird flying above with large flowers, the glaze is bluish gray in tone, the design is reminescent of Portuguese faience, there are some losses to the glaze on the rim, Ex Coll. Baroque style, mind design with fox + rabbit in grayish blue. 17th century. North Italy."
