Description:
Pair of man's velvet or velveteen pantaloons featuring a fall front, fitted long legs that end just above the ankles, and decorative knee buttons. By the turn of the 19th century fitted trousers or pantaloons became a fashionable choice for men's dress. These fitted, bifurcated garments were longer than previously fashionable breeches (which ended just below the knee), extending to just above the ankle in most cases. In February of 1808, Boston tailor John Loudon charged Aaron Fuller (b.1786) $9.58 and $2.25 for "a pair of Cassimeer pantaloons" and " a pair of nankeen pantaloons and trimmg" respectively. By the end of the second decade of the century, looser and/or longer length trousers replaced pantaloons.
