Description: Thrown, red earthenware jug with waisted, cylindrical shape, base of jug is very flat, upper rim of jug has applied second layer for thickness, attached strap handle on side, covered all over in a brown, manganese glaze, with borders of gold paint along the sides of the handle and on the lower edge of the base, remants can be seen along the upper rim; gold paint was used by some potter's businesses from Maine to New Hampshire to Massachusetts and farther south such as places throughout the Mid-Atlantic states, which includes Philadelphia,.
