Description:
Thrown, red earthenware ovoid flask with a round, flat base, swelled bodies with pinched or depressed sides, narrow spout with flared lip, surface is decorated with and orange glaze with manganese splotches, painted on the base of the flask in red paint is “34.” Formerly part of the Burton N. Gates Collection. Original Gates notecard for this object reads, "Bottle, spice./ Col. Conn. 1903 Red clay: reddish brown glaze. splashed in black. 2 in-/cised rings. Dented sides. 6 in."
