Description:
Thrown ovoid shaped jug with applied, ribbed strap handle, short neck of pot has ledge for the receipt of a lid which does not survive, covered all over with medium orange-brown glaze with small splotches and spots of dark brown manganese glaze, two incised lines at the shoulder, and two incised lines on the lip, painted in red on the underside, “32.” Formerly part of the Burton N. Gates Collection. Original Gates notecard reads, "Covered Pitcher/ Col. Fitchburg 1908. Red clay: redish glaze. incised ring and incised/edge on rim. Cover wanting. 6 1/2in."
