Description:
Thrown redware pitcher with vase shape, round base, swelled sides, narrowing shoulders and neck, flaring rim, edge is pinched to create a spout, applied strap handle, covered all over with a dark brown manganese glaze, incised line on shoulder and at top edge of pitcher, paper label attached to the handle is written in ink, and reads, “Whately Pottery/ Col. By/ BNG at/ Whately Mass” Formerly part of the Burton N. Gates Collection. Small hole in side of the pot with a crack near the handle. Formerly part of the Burton N. Gates Collection.
