Description:
Mugs were produced in great quantity by every pottery, yet today few survive, probably due to rough handling in taverns and public houses. Thrown redware mug with molded lower edge, straight sides, and round mouth, applied strap handle, covered in a orange glaze, on one side is an x design, painted in red “121” on the bottom of the mug, also inscribed in pencil “??” Formerly part of the Burton N. Gates Collection. Original Gates notecard does not relate to this object but a "cup and saucer candle stick."
