Description:
Thrown, cylindrical jar with molded lower edge, straight sides, angled shoulders, flaring rim, opening would have had a round lid which does not survive with the jar, covered in a dark olive-green glaze with yellow-orange spots and manganese splashes, painted in red on the underside, “2”. Formerly part of the Burton N. Gates Collection. Original Gates notecard reads, "Jar 5.5 x 9.5 in./ Col. Hartford-Ct. Dec. 1911. Avery. Jar with cover (?) red clay. Dark glaze/ with deep orange spots. Show greens and yellows in sunlight."
