Description:
Thrown, salt-glazed stoneware cylindrical mug, mug has a flat bottom, straight sides, and a molded upper rim, there is an applied strap handle to the sides, Base has the characteristic concentric marks of an object removed from a potter’s wheel with a wire while the object is still turning on the wheel. Inscribed in red paint on the bottom of the pot, “47.” and “Col. 1906/ Worcester, Mass.” Formerly part of the Burton N. Gates Collection. Original Gates notecard for this object reads "Mug./ Col. Worcester 1906. Stoneware. 5.5 in tall. Incised ring near/ margin."
