Description:
Crudely thrown, red earthenware jug, with flat base, molded lower edge, ovoid-shaped body, narrowing neck, round spout has double rib, attached to spout is ribbed, strap handle which is very crudely made, there are two incised bands around the shoulder of the pot, covered all over with a dark green glaze with fain orange spots, inscribed on bottom of jug in red paint, “5.” and in pen, “#5”, surface of the pot is very rough, Formerly part of the Burton N. Gates Collection. Original Gates notecard for this object reads, "Jug/ Col. thru Olson E. Brookfield, Mass. 1911 7 in. 2 incised rings around top and 2 around neck./ red clay: dark brown glaze wtih greenish cast. Handle incised."
