Description:
Tall, straight-sided thrown jar with flat base, slight beveled sides to lower edge, shoulder of pot is sharply angled, rounded rim is notched to receive a lid (lid not original), the circular lid has a pointed round knob in the center, the whole is covered in an orange lead glaze with splashes of dark brown manganese glaze. On the underside of the base is the red painted number, “#3” And in the pencil inscription, “Albany/NY/1911” Formerly part of the Burton N. Gates Collection. The catalogue card for this object reads: "Covered jar. 5 x 8 in./ Col. 1911. Albany, N.Y. Cover wanting. Red clay. Brown splashes. Suggests/ Clark's Mill."
