Description:
Thrown redware jar with flat base, beaded edge to lower rim, straight sides, curving shoulders, and circular mouth with rim notched to receive a lid (which does not exist). Surface is covered with an olive lead glaze and is appears mottled with spots of dark brown color and orange. Written in felt tip pen on the bottom of the jar, “…George Sherman?/ who bought it at auction/ in Plaistow, N.H.” A white paper note that was once within the object (now in the data file) reads: "Cylinder jar with constrained mouth. Purchased Oct. 30, 1974 from George Sherwood. George purchased this at an auction in Plaistow, N.H. (Fram.) Probably a Maine piece. Dull side prob. due to cold side of kiln."
