Description:
Thrown, red earthenware pitcher, vessel has circular bottom, indented edge to base, swelled sides, cupped rim, spout is pinched from rim of vessel, rim appears to be designed to fit a lid (no lid survives), attached strap handle, incised horizontal bands are just below the rim, covered all over in a medium brown lead glaze, Condition: a very large hole in the bottom of the jug, much of the base edge is lost, the upper rim has many losses. Printed white tag attached to pot reads, “K.W./VAN BLARCOM/AUCTIONEER APPRAISER/FIVE BUTLER STREET/ SHERBORN, MA 01770/ (617) 653-7017” and on the reverse in blue ink, “#385” and “on 6” in a circle, inscribed in ink on bottom of pot, “Coll 86/Plenza?”
