Description: Circular medal of indeterminate gold-colored metal affixed to a purple (probably silk) ribbon stamped in faded gold capital lettering, "OLD HOME WEEK / CELEBRATION / DEERFIELD / MASS. / 1901" The verso of the metal depicts a stylized log cabin home with a well and sweep on the lefthand side and on the right is a tree in the front, the rim of the medal is surrounded by a raised foliate, wreath-like border with a bow at the base and scrolls at the top. The back or obverse of the metal is incised with capital letters "SCHWAAB & S. CO. MILWAUKEE" on the top margin, and has the Lord's Prayer in the center, surrounded by a laurel wreath. The idea of “Old Home Week” is a practice that originated in the New England region of the United States similar to a holiday or festival. In its beginning in the late 19th-early 20th century, it involved a municipal effort to invite former residents of a village, town, or city - usually individuals who grew up in the town as children and moved elsewhere in adulthood - to visit the "Old Home," the parental household and home town.
