The letter reads:  "Cleveland / Nov 15, 1837 / My dear Sir / Our cashier wishes me to ask what you / consider the present standing of Jas [?] H / Leonard of your place. / We hold a note of [?}$2000 en- / dorsed by Jas H [?] and if you consider / it collectable with an idea of sending it for / suit in your courts. / Will you please let me know your opinion / in the matter which will be a favor [?]. / I have no news to communicate. / [?]  Our weather holds quite warm [?]yet rather windy [?] Lake & canal free/  We hear / --[?]news for the Whigs from your state, / to the astonishment of all. / yours truly / J Rockwell / [?]Leonard Esq" The outisde reads:  "S Leonard Esq [?] / Lowville / Louis Co / NY " stamped "Cleveland Nov 16 / free";  upside down at bottom " james Rockwell / [?]32."
