Description: Silver tablespoon with a pointed oval bowl, rounded shoulders, and upturned double-swell fiddle handle with a short front mid-rib, which is marked "SMITH & CHAMBERLAIN" and "SALEM" and engraved "Remembrance" in script on back of the handle, and with the initials "MCJ"(?) on the front. James Ford Smith (b.1787) and Benjamin Mooers Chamberlain (b.1818) were in partnership in Salem from 1840-1870. This spoon is one of a collection of silver spoons from the Viola Wilby estate.
