Description: "Elisha Crain." Elisha Crain or Crane served as a private in the 3rd Connecticut Regiment from May 17 to December 16, 1775. John Arnold also served in this company. Some of the men took part in the Battle of Bunker Hill. It seems likely that either John Arnold or Elisha Crain carved these two horns, for their lettering , phonetic spelling , poor planning , and quality of engraving are identical. Both have a sketch of a tall-case clock - the time on Arnold's is 12:45, while that on Crain's , which is more elaborate, is 6:15. Outlines of Boston, Boston Harbor, and environs are neatly drawn in great detail and include individual features of forts and vignettes of Boston, Charlestown and Roxbury. There are five ships in the harbor. Two flintlock muskets and several plants are used as fillers.
