Description:
Hoop petticoat made of unbleached, plain weave linen with stiffening ribs of wrapped bundles of rye stitched into the garment, which may have been made for a doll. Fashion dolls, which made in the height of fashion during the 18th and early 19th centuries, were dressed with detailed garments that women and dressmakers could inspect for information on the latest styles. Fashion dolls and their minaiature clothes were replaced in the 19th century with the growing popularity and ease of published fashion plates in journals.
