Pair of men's large, octagonal curved shoe buckles with silver face on brass engraved with bright-cut decoration of dotted scrolls, flowers, and attached brass chapes, which are marked "IM" on one buckle attributed to John McMullin (1765-1843) of Philadelphia. The donor wrote a note (see data file) to Amanda Lange: "My gr. uncle Eugene Bucklin Bowen of Cheshire, Mass., was very patriotic. I have a photo of him marching Memorial Day dressed in a Revolutionary War uniform with the silver buckles. The Bucklins were the first settlers of the Berkshires so they probably came down in the Bucklin family." Eugene Bucklin Bowen (1855-1952) was the son of Henry C. Bowan and Susan Elizabeth Bucklin (b. 1832) who married in 1855; Susan Elizabeth Bucklin descended from the orginal Bucklin to the Americam colonies. She was the daughter of Maj. John Bucklin (b.1806) of Adams, Cheschire County, Massachusetts; son of John Bucklin, Sr. (1773-1859) of Adams; son of Jeremiah Bucklin (c.1745-1838) who was born in Rhode Island and moved to Adams in 1767; son of Capt. John Bucklin (1694-1776); son of Joseph Bucklin 3rd. (1694-1776 of RI; son of Joseph Bucklin 2nd (1663-1729) of Rehobeth and RI; son of Joseph Bucklin, Sr. (1633-1718) who was born in England and was living in Rehobeth, Massachusetts before 1670. A graduate of Tufts, Eugene Bucklin Bowen, a descendant of eleven Revolutionary War soldiers, would don the uniform of the color guard of the Massachusetts State Society, Sons of the American Revolution, and parade around the campus with a replica of the 1776 Bennington Battle flag during Tufts alumni festivities (according to data found in the Tufts Digital Library).
