Description: English pearlware figure of "Winter", painted in underglaze high temperature enamel oxide colors in green, blue, and yellow, often called "Prattware" colors, after the potter, William Pratt, who developed the palette at his factory in Lane Delph, Staffordshire. These are the typical range of colors available for underglaze painted decoration, a palette limited to colors derived from metallic oxides that could withstand the heat of the glaze firing. The press-molded figure of "Winter" shows a woman draped in a cloak with her head turned downwards toward a brazier of fire at her feet and standing on a square base molded with geometric leaves. Her cloak is trimmed in blue and decorated with floral sprigs. The base has sponged colors.
